Another model display opportunity - this time in Sacramento!
The Northern California Friends of the Aces is presenting another symposium, this time featuring P-47s aces Bob Rankin, Les Smith and Hal Comstock of the 56th Fighter Group and Ed Roddy of the 56th and 348th Fighter Groups. The event is being held at the Aerospace Museum of California at the old McClellan Air Force Base (3200 Freedom Park Drive in McClellan, CA), a museum that has Silicon Valley Scale Modelers' own Barry Bauer as one of its big shots. Once again, we've been asked if we could provide a model display at the event. If you've already got one of these pilots' planes already built, or if you have any other model of a 56th FG or 348th FG P-47, you can be part of the display and get a chance to meet these pilots. Contact the RC; he'll coordinate it and make sure there's a display card for your model.
Time to get in your application for Chapter of the Year 2007
Chapter contacts need to sit down and tally up the points their club racked up in the 2007 calendar year for eligibility for the Region 9 CoY award. Remember: it is based on a system designed to even out the big club-little club differences between our various chapters. Essentially, the hardest-working club, regardless of its size, wins! Just by looking at the activities of various clubs, there should be a lot of contenders in 2007 - as long as you chapter contacts submit an entry come next February. Here's how we score it:
1. Host a contest: four points.
2. Organize a public display: two points
3. Conduct a make-and-take: two points
4. Organize a charitable event (model drive, benefit, etc.): three points
5. Host a guest speaker: one point
6. Publish a monthly newsletter: 3 points
7. Produce a website: 3 points
8. Re-charter before Dec. 1: 5 points
9. Re-charter before Jan. 1: 3 points
10. Have a member gain R9 Qualified Judging Status: 1 point per member
Chapter contacts must track their clubs' performances and report their results to me no later than Feb. 15, 2008. Anything submitted after that date will be disregarded and disqualified. The reporting year goes from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31. The winning club's name is inscribed in perpetuity on the Hugh Silvas Region 9 Chapter of the Year Award; winners then get a chance at the IPMS National Chapter of the Year award.

February 9, 2008: IPMS/Santa Rosa and IPMS/Mt. Diablo join forces to present Hobby Expo 2008 at the Petaluma Community Center, 320 North McDowell Blvd. in Petaluma. April 19, 2008: Silicon Valley Scale Modelers present the 2008 Kickoff Classic at the Santa Clara Convention Center, 5001 Great America Parkway in Santa Clara.
