The Sd.Kfz. 251/20 Uhu, a World War II German halftrack, mounted a powerful infra-red searchlight and operated in special night fighting groups. The Uhu illuminated targets using infra-red light in wavelengths undetectable to the human eye. Soldiers and vehicles equipped with night vision equipment could detect this infra-red light and thus see anything illuminated by the Uhu. The Uhu normally operated as part of a night fighting Panther tank platoon or with other halftracks equipped with anti-tank guns.
