IPMS Seattle 2008 Spring Show

Location: Renton Community Center, Seattle, Washington
Date: April 19, 2008
Commentary: Greg Reynolds
Photographer: Greg Reynolds

IPMS Seattle is my old stomping grounds and I stay in touch with the gang up there (I even still pay my dues!) so it was a pleasure when a family trip coincided with their 2008 Spring Show. Held at the Renton Community Center on April 19, the event attracted over 700 models despite the snow. (It's always nice to have a reminder of why I moved.)

I was struck by the diversity - even eccentricity - of their modeling interests. Take a look at these photos and judge for yourself.

1/72 British flying boat, Blackburn Iris (Contrails vacuumform - good as scratchbuilt)   This 1/48 scale trainer put on quite a show. There was a sound track of the aircraft being pre-flighted and the engine started. This was co-ordinated with the nav and cockpit lights turning on and the propeller turning.

Those of you who attended the IPMS National last year in Anahiem may recall IPMS Seattle's "1949 Schneider Trophy Race" club display. This year's club build was to make something ELSE out of the 1/72 Bilek An-2.

This full scale U-boat periscope was actually a shadow box. When you looked inside, you saw a diorama with animated lighting effects of an allied transport ship being torpedoed.
