2007 Christmas Party

Location: Santa Rosa, CA
Date: December 7, 2007
Commentary: Doug Dropeskey (based on an announcement by John Admire)
Photographer: John Admire

Every year, IPMS Santa Rosa celebrates the holidays with a Christmas party for members and their families. This year, the party took place on December 7 at the Round Table Pizza across from Coddingtown Mall. The club filled the festively decorated Glass Room for two hours of fun, entertainment, and conversation. The party featured a very nice model gift exchange for members and another gift exchange just for the ladies. Lots of nice gifts were had by all. It was especially nice to see all the ladies at the party, and the club would like to thank each of them for attending.

Before the event started, Cathy Admire and Jae Rickets preparred the room with decorations brought by Cathy and John Admire. Brownies, cookies, and candy were provided courtesy of Greg Reynolds, Cathy, and Jae. Greg ordered pizza and drinks, provided courtesy of the club, so that things were well underway as guests arrived.

After John and Brett Halby finished collected gifts for the exchange, President John Admire officially began the party and took a few minutes for club related business. Greg Reynolds then passed out the party door prize to members--a stack of Testor's Roswell UFOs. Under normal circumstance, most members would pass on this particular project, but Jack Riggar stepped in to make things interesting. In a surprise announcement, Jack challenged every member to build and paint one of these UFOs as anything except a UFO and bring it to the April meeting. If this piqued interest, the incentive of a $25 cash prize for the winner sealed the deal. Even better, John Admire and Greg Reynolds quickly jumped in to offer a trophy to the winner. The UFOs disappeared as fast as the real thing!

The next order of business involved annual awards. At the end of every calender year, the 4 elected members on the IPMS Santa Rosa board select a Contributer of the Year from the club membership. Every member except the President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer is eligible. This year, the board selected website administrator Doug Dropeskey as the Contributer of the Year for 2007 based on his regular attendence of member and board meetings, involvement in club events, and management of the club website. In honor of this achievement, Doug received a round of applause and a very nice lucite trophy like those given out at Hobby Expo.

Editor's Note: I would like to thank all the board members, and indeed all of the club membership, for this honor. I would also like to point out that all of the board members work very, very hard to organize meetings, events, field trips, and the Hobby Expo, often at great personal expense of time and money, and they all deserve awards as Contributers of the Year.

Every year, each IPMS chapter also gets to elect one national member for a Meteor Award. The Meteor Award acknowledges the contributions of the member to his or her club, and comes with both a trophy and $25 cash prize. Every member of IPMS Santa Rosa who also belongs to IPMS USA is eligible, with the winner determined by a poll of all club members. Greg dilegently handled the polling and tabulated the results during the first hour of the party. This year, the membership of IPMS Santa Rosa selected Doug Dropeskey for the 2007 Meteor Award. Doug was once again surprised and very thankful.

Editor's Note: Once again, I would like to thank all of the club members for this award. The pool of eligible people for this award included many great contributers and all of the board members, and I feel very honored.

With the announcements and awards over, President John Admire moved on to the next order of business, free stuff for everyone in the gift exchange! One by one, John used the IPMS Santa Rosa Thumbler of Randomizing +3 to select party guests. Once selected, a guest surveyed the pool of gifts and selected one item, opening it for everyone to see. As you can see in the pictures below, the pool of gifts favored almost every type and scale. Many participants commented on how happy they were with the gifts. This year also added a new and fun twist--a gift exchange just for the ladies.

The club would like to thank everyone who attended the Christmas party and helped out with the festivities. Thanks to John and Cathy Admire for bringing the decorations. Thanks to John, Cathy, Brett Halby, Greg Reynolds, and Jae Rickets for getting the room ready. Thanks yet again to Greg for the brownies and Jae for the cookies. Thanks one more time to Greg for buying the food and drinks, handling the award balloting, and making the awesome award for Contributer of the Year. Thanks yet again to John and Brett for organizing the gift exchange.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Maybe we'll see YOU next year.
